April Fool's Day

Saturday night, I didn’t realize
What day it was but I sure got wise
When she said: I’m coming home to you
I thought that all of my dreams would come true

But suddenly I saw in the almanac
It was April Fool’s Day and I got thrown back
From Heaven’s clear air to Hell’s fire and smoke
I thought she was setting me up for a joke

April Fool’s Day, the misery of so many men
April Fool’s Day, thought my chances were one to ten

But she didn’t object when I took her hand
She just threw herself in my arms and said: You’re a wonderful man
And I didn’t know just what to say
I just thought: Oh, if it just wasn’t April Fool’s Day

April Fool’s Day, I thought I was another sucker on the vine
April Fool’s Day, but I just felt fine

Cause months have past, years have too
She still looks at me with eyes that say “I love you”
And I’m more happy than words can say
That it wasn’t a joke though it was April Fool’s Day

I’m a fool for your love, April Fool’s Day
I’m a fool for your love, April Fool’s Day
